Snape MaltingsAldeburgh food festival is a showcase the cream of Suffolk’s food and drink producers, with plenty of opportunities for visitors to try before they buy, hear what the chefs have to say and see demonstrations of some of the best in class cooking.

The 5th festival takes place in the fabulous setting of Snape Maltings next to the River Alde near the picturesque coastal town of Aldeburgh in Suffolk on the 25th and 26th September. The Aldeburgh Food and Drink Fringe Festival is on 25th September to 9th October 2010.

Suffolk’s coast is a rich provider of varied and quality local food. The festival thrives from the host of raw materials and talent available from the 75 local producers taking part. 

What makes Aldeburgh unique is that the mix of product is so wide from Bluebell Woods Wild Venison, Sutton Hoo Chicken, Wissett Wines and Sotherton Farm Beef and Pies; ‘The Cake Shop’ of Woodbridge famous for ‘real’ artisan bread with a range of Suffolk Speciality Breads [Suffolk Trencher, Suffolk Beaver and SuffolkCrunch].

wineFriday 24th September will include a lively conference bringing together senior figures from the world of food and nutrition. Staged in the Aldeburgh Music’s Hoffman Building at Snape Maltings.

Entitled ‘How to get people to change their eating habits’, the event will be chaired by BBC radio presenter and respected food writer Sheila Dillon, along with the festival’s President, renowned food campaigner Lady Caroline Cranbrook OBE.

Speakers will include Tim Lang, Professor of Food Policy at City University, and Professor Jules Pretty from the Department of Environment and Society at Essex University.

At Snape Maltings the marquees will be filled with an extraordinary selection of fresh fish and succulent meats, delicious dairy products, amazing breads, cakes and pies, hearty vegetables, freshly-made fruit juices, jams and chutneys, quality beers and wines.

huntingThe line-up includes North Norfolk-based restaurateur Galton Blackiston, TV chef and truffle aficionado Valentine Warner and Thomasina Miers, winner of MasterChef and owner of London’s two Wahaca Mexican restaurants.

Marcus Verberne from Brown’s Hotel, London and Simon Wdham, head chef of The Rivington, London, Matthew Fort, food writer and judge on BBCTV’s Great British Menu.

Tom Parker Bowles of ITV’s Market Kitchen will also be joining the team, along with Rose Prince of the Daily Telegraph and Sheila Dillon from Radio 4’s Food Programme.
